Stark Varg Parts & Maintenance Guide (MX / EX / SM)

Maintenance guide for the Stark Varg electric motocross bike — Brembo brakes, #520 chain, KYB 48mm forks, Arkenstone app tuning, and post-race service.

7 min read

The Stark Varg is in a different category from the Sur-Ron, Talaria, or Segway X260. It's a purpose-built electric motocross race machine from Barcelona, Spain — 60kW peak power, all-Brembo braking, and KYB race-spec forks. At ~114kg with a 6.5kWh battery, it is lighter than most full-size 250cc gas MX bikes. Parts are expensive. The bike deserves premium maintenance.

1. Brake System

The Varg uses Brembo disc brakes front and rear — the same brand on Ducati, KTM RC8R, and BMW S1000RR.

New Brembo pads need proper bedding: 8–10 moderate stops from 30mph before hard braking. The pads need heat cycles to reach full clamping force.

2. Chain & Drivetrain

The Varg runs a #520 chain — same pitch as full-size 250–450cc MX bikes. OEM chain: $68.99. Check tension every 5–8 hours — at 60kW torque, chain wear is faster than on lighter bikes. Stock gearing: 13T/48T.

3. Suspension

Varg MX and SM get KYB 48mm USD forks — same spec as factory KTM/Yamaha race bikes. Varg EX gets WP Xact Pro.

Fork oil every 20 race hours or once per season. Set rear static sag to 100–105mm for MX, 110mm for trail.

4. Tires

MX 1.0 and EX: 21" front. Rear varies — MX 1.0 uses 18", MX 1.2 uses 19". Confirm your model before ordering rear tires.

5. Arkenstone App

Connect via Bluetooth to tune power maps, view telemetry, and run remote diagnostics. The default power map is intentionally conservative — spend 20 minutes in the app before your first real ride. Three custom profiles let you tune peak power, regen level, and throttle response independently.

6. Battery

6.5kWh (MX 1.0/EX/SM) or 7.2kWh (MX 1.2) — 25–35 minutes race-intensity riding. Replacement: $3,005. Store at 40–60%, never below 20%.

Service Schedule

  • Before each moto: Tire pressure, chain tension and lube, brake feel, sag check
  • Every 5–8 hours: Chain tension and lube, brake pad visual
  • Every 20 hours: DOT 5.1 brake bleed, spoke tension, fork oil check
  • Every 40 hours or annually: Fork oil change, shock fluid, linkage bearings

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Stark Varg a real MX race bike?

Yes. The Stark Varg produces 60kW peak power (~80hp) and weighs ~114kg — lighter than most 450cc gas MX bikes. It runs KYB 48mm race-spec forks (MX/SM), all-Brembo braking, and a #520 chain. It has competed at professional MX events.

What chain does the Stark Varg use?

The Stark Varg uses a #520 chain — same pitch as full-size 250cc and 450cc motocross bikes. Stock gearing is 13T front / 48T rear. OEM replacement chains are $68.99.

What is the Arkenstone app?

Arkenstone is Stark's Bluetooth app for the Varg. Through it you can set power maps (tune peak power, regen level, and power delivery curve across 3 profiles), view telemetry, and send crash/error data to Stark support for remote diagnostics.

What brake fluid does the Stark Varg use?

The Stark Varg uses DOT 5.1 brake fluid — different from DOT 4 (Zero FXE) and mineral oil (Tektro bikes). Bleed every 20 race hours or annually.

How much does a Stark Varg battery cost?
