Galfer is the most widely-used aftermarket brake brand in the electric dirt bike market — and for good reason. Their pads are formulated specifically for the caliper families found on Sur-Ron, Talaria, Segway, KTM, and Stark bikes, and their wave rotors are a genuine performance upgrade over OEM steel discs. This guide covers fitment by bike, compound selection, and the rotor upgrade path.
Sur-Ron Light Bee X and Light Bee S
The Light Bee X and S both use the Tektro Auriga hydraulic caliper. Two Galfer pad compounds fit directly:
- E-Bike Compound (BFD426G1652) — $40.99 — organic/semi-metallic formulation engineered for heavier e-bikes. Better heat management and wet performance than the stock organic pads. Best for trail and pump track use.
- Pro Sintered Compound (BFD426G1554) — $43.99 — fully sintered metal. Superior performance under repeated hard braking and in mud. Harder on rotors; longer bedding period required. Best for track and aggressive enduro.
Rotor Upgrades for the Light Bee X
Stock front rotor is 203mm. Two Galfer wave rotor options:
- 203mm Wave Rotor (DB034W) — $63.99 — direct OEM-size replacement. No adapter needed. The wave (petal) design reduces unsprung weight and improves heat dissipation vs the OEM solid disc. Drop-in upgrade.
- 223mm Wave Rotor (DB007W) — $76.99 + +20mm Adapter (SB002) — $39.99 — the performance upgrade. A 20mm larger rotor gives more mechanical leverage at the lever — braking feels sharper and more controllable. The caliper adapter bolts directly to the OEM mount, no machining required. Total upgrade cost: $116.98.
The 223mm upgrade is the most popular Galfer mod on the Light Bee X. Combined with sintered Pro pads, the front brake character changes noticeably — more initial bite, better modulation under hard use.
Talaria Sting (MX3 / MX4 / XXX)
The Sting MX3, MX4, and XXX use the same Tektro Auriga caliper as the Sur-Ron — the same Galfer pads apply:

Exception — Talaria MX4 Expert: The MX4 Expert uses a Magura MT5 4-piston caliper, not Tektro Auriga. Different pad required: Galfer Magura MT5/MT7 Compound (BFD487G1652) — $41.99. Do not install Tektro-spec pads in a Magura caliper — the piston contact geometry is different.
Sur-Ron Ultra Bee
The Ultra Bee uses a Zoom hydraulic caliper — different from the Tektro Auriga on the Light Bee X. A different Galfer compound is required:
Galfer Semi-Metallic Pads — Ultra Bee (Zoom) — $44.99
Do not install Light Bee X pads (BFD426) in an Ultra Bee caliper — they are not interchangeable.
KTM Freeride E-XC
The Freeride E-XC uses BRAKTEC hydraulic disc brakes — not Tektro, not Magura. Galfer does not currently make a BRAKTEC-specific brake pad; for pads, use OEM BRAKTEC replacements. Galfer does make the rotor:
Galfer 260mm Wave Rotor (DF796W) — $106.99 — verified for KTM Freeride E-XC 2015–2023. OEM-size replacement with the wave design for better heat dissipation.
Brake fluid: DOT 4 only — never use mineral oil in BRAKTEC brakes. Bleed annually.
Stark Varg
The Stark Varg uses Brembo disc brakes — the highest-spec caliper in this catalog. Galfer makes a purpose-built compound:
- Pads: Galfer Sintered Double-H (Brembo) — $39.99 — sintered compound for the Varg's Brembo caliper. Fits MX 1.0, EX, SM, and MX 1.2.
- Front rotor (260mm): $149.99
- Rear rotor (220mm): $122.99
Brake fluid: DOT 5.1 — not DOT 4, not mineral oil. Bleed every 20 race hours.

Bedding In New Pads
New sintered pads require bedding — 8–10 progressive stops from 25–30 mph before hard braking. Skip this step and the pads won't reach full clamping force for the first several rides. E-Bike compound pads bed in faster and need only 4–5 moderate stops.
